A Conscious Life - Womynfesto
I choose to live a Big Life!
My words fat sloppy overeaters
Spilling over the sides of the plate
And sticking to the table.
I choose to live a fat and fleshy life
No model thin anorexic teetering on six inch stilettos.
I choose to live a big conscious life
Fallin’ down sloppy drunk with intention
A husky size commitment to the Big and Tall
Quadruple 4XXXXX kinda’ life!
Portly and Profound-
No soaked and saturated Richard Simmons
Sweatin’ to the oldies spare and spindly
Kind of existence.
I choose to live a big fat juicy life!
Unwieldy beefy-not stumblin’ around like some kind of blind Weight Watcher
Yes-I said it!
A Jenny Craig crunching
Swollen survivor
Mammoth and pregnant with what is real-
What is true-that there is a
Conscious thread
Spinning within me
Carrying and sustaining me in the pit.
No through push or petition.
But through grace.
YES!
I choose again and again and again
To live a thick
Rotund hefty
Kind of life.
Because....
I
Can.

“I am really grateful for you teaching us how to act……Lately I have been having more fun because I’ve been able to express myself more and more each day. Because of what you taught us and how not to think of what other people say……When I grow up, I want to do something in the entertainment world to become someone like you.”
-Rachel, Middle School Student
“I am so happy you came to our class and worked with us for the week. I really loved writing and you’re really inspiring. Telling my story to the class was hard, and made me shake. But I’m so glad you encouraged me to get up there and do it. I think I really needed to let that out. I am just glad I read my story to at least somebody, and my whole class was respectful about it. Thanks again, because if you hadn’t been in our class and had us write, I would still be holding that in.”
-Janie, Middle School Student
“I give you a big thank you because you made me express myself on my personal narrative. You made a big change on my life. Shelley, you were hilarious and funny…..Thank you!” -Justin, Middle School Student
“It was an amazing experience. I never knew that writing what’s on your mind actually helps. It made me feel much better. I’m really glad that you took your time and shared everything with us. I knew that the moment you said “personal narrative”, I thought to myself, “Perfect! I can finally write down what’s been on my mind the past two years.” I really couldn’t have done it without you. Thank you for everything you did.”
-Kayla, Middle School Student
